Licuala Writers Word Event a Success
With calls from members, the audience and the Dorothy Jones Library staff for more, the Licuala Writers Word Event has been deemed a success. Held in the library on Saturday the 19th of September, a variety of writers, songsters and enthusiasts gathered to hear poems, prose and songs. Audience members drove in to Tully from neighbouring Cardwell and Mission Beach to participate and listen. The general public who were visiting the library for their own purposes were attracted by the atmosphere and gathered around to listen.
While most were nervous about reading their work in public it proved beneficial for reader and listener alike.
Guests were treated to a tempting spread of refreshments after the reading and given a chance to mingle and network. The Licuala Writers thanked local businesses and Andrew Cripps MP for their generous support, enabling the group to produce a flyer and program, and refreshments on the day. The group are planning that this will become an annual event.
Those interested in submitting work for the anthology or coming along to the group’s next meeting in November are invited to contact the group facilitator Dr June Perkins or visit their website at http://licualaintoorbit.wordpress.com/.
